Imparja to stop travellers from viewing Sat TV
On the 29th of September Imparja Television announced that they would no longer be allowing travellers to view their broadcasts via satellite. In a long winded announcement on their website Imparja.com.au , Imparja claimed that the overheads involved in managing the system were no longer sustainable. This means that no further smart card activation applications will be considered from travellers. Furthermore those travellers who already have an Optus Aurora smart card with Imparja enabled will soon find that the card no longer allows access.
Interestingly this announcement is on the same page that they speak with some distaste about the use of pirate cards (gold cards etc). As far as I can see, all this announcement will achieve is an increase in the use of gold cards.
Update 08/12/2008
It looks like Imparja Television may be going to soften their stance. In a further announcement on their site the broadcaster has offered to continue suppling programming to travellers IF they agree to pay a processing fee. The exact cost has not yet been announced.
Update 09/12/2008
Imparja has anounced that the application fee for travellers will be $55 including GST. This fee is charged even if the application is rejected.

Why do you have adverts on your website?
As I am sure you can imagine, it costs both time and money to run the website.
When people (just like you) click on one of those adverts, a tiny bit of credit is added to the Hobohome account.
If you think our motorhome site has been useful, please think about supporting the site by supporting the companies that
advertise on the site.
Thanks and enjoy our motorhome website - Gavin & Tracey.
